Message from the IHCNO President
Thank you for your interest in IHCNO, and for your passion for home-based nursing practice. I appreciate this opportunity to share our progress and the opportunities for you to expand your leadership with us.
During our November Board of Directors meeting, Marilyn Harris was elected to a second 2-year term as treasurer and Olga Jarrín Montaner was elected as Corresponding Secretary. Olga also Chairs the Communications Committee, tasked with the development of monthly newsletters and social media strategy and content.
We have several educational activities planned. In January and February, we will offer a series of webinars with nursing professional development contact hours (continuing education units, CEUs by American Nurses Credentialing Center). You will be able to enroll in the webinars at our website. We will provide additional information in the coming weeks.
To further share important information with our members, on February 11th, I will begin quarterly live meetings with members via Zoom, a cloud-based communications platform. In these meetings, I will share information about opportunities to serve on projects and committees. I look forward to meeting you at these interactive discussions.
As we continue to grow individually and as an organization, IHCNO offers several new opportunities for you to become involved with projects that have international reach. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please let us know at info@IHCNO.org about your interest.
- Membership Committee: member recruitment and engagement
- Communications Committee: seeking an undergraduate or graduate nursing student intern to assist with content and graphic design for social media posts (using Canva)
- Conference/Webinar Committee: plan and host an annual hybrid in-person/virtual conference and additional webinars
- Education Committee: lead a journal or book club, promote academic-practice relationships, develop home-based nursing undergraduate curriculum, best practices for orientation programs, develop preceptor or mentor programs
- International Nursing Certification Committee: develop a certification program for home-based nursing as a specialty
- Advocacy Committee: create better work environments for nurses and improved outcomes for patients in home-based settings
In addition, IHCNO is seeking nominations of members to be elected to the Board of Directors at the annual Members meeting March 21, 2025. If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the Board of Directors, please send your resume/CV and statement of interest to info@IHCNO.org Board members are expected to attend all board meetings and have a leadership role in a committee and participate in growing the membership and sustainability of IHCNO.
Again, I ask that you please share your knowledge by taking part in the IHCNO study to develop the international home-care nursing scope, standards, and competencies for professional practice. Survey 4 of the study will be open from mid-December to mid-January. You can read more about the study on the website https://www.ihcno.org
